Abstract

While technological and scientific innovations facilitate the life of societies, they can also cause some problems. In particular, chemicals and biotechnology used in agricultural production jeopardize food safety and health. In addition, the climate crisis negatively affects agriculture, which is the most basic need of humanity, and causes future generations to face threats such as famine, drought and hunger. At this point, it becomes clear how important agricultural journalism is in the healthy, efficient and sustainable performance of agricultural production. This study aims to discuss the current situation, problems and solution proposals of the phenomenon of agricultural journalism, which is a very limited research area, in the global arena through a literature review method and also aims to make determinations regarding agricultural journalism. The findings of the study show that agricultural journalism is particularly strong and widely practiced in the USA. In India, although it is widely practiced, there are qualitative problems. However, it is concluded that agricultural journalism is shadowed by fields such as economy and politics in the entire global arena and is not practiced in a qualified manner due to political economy priorities and technical inadequacies. In Turkey, on the other hand, it is determined that agricultural journalism suffers from both quantity and quality problems, and that the agricultural field is quite inadequate in terms of specialization in the mainstream and the creation of independent desks, except for thematic outlets.

Tarım Haberciliği: Küresel Alan ve Türkiye’ye Bir Bakış

Year 2023, Issue: 41, 27 - 46, 30.08.2023
https://doi.org/10.31123/akil.1303351
